Language Revitalization in Karai-karai: An Effective Tool Against Language Endangerment in Nigeria.

The paper highlights the Karai-karai language situation as one of the threatened minority languages in northern Nigeria facing the extinction saga and the possible ways of revitalizing it. As it stands, the use of Karai-karai keeps declining drastically in almost all domains of language use: market, schools, mosques, churches, town hall meetings, and more interestingly, the home domain. A recorded interview technique was used for generating the required data from two speech communities in Bauchi and Yobe States. Results show that over 78% of Karai-karai youths barely use the language anywhere because they can’t express themselves freely in the language. With this clear prospect of extinction, a drastic revitalization plan has therefore been proposed to address the matter in order to reactivate the speakers to love and speak karai-karai in order to save it from the imminent extinction. A recommendation is made for adult speakers to step up and teach younger ones deliberately and save the decline and eventual death of the language.

Evaluation of Serum Lipid and Lipoprotein in Diabetic and Hypertensive subject Attending Specialist Hospital Damaturu Yobe State

Absorbility and availability of food nutrients depends on many factors. In serum, lipid molecules are present in combination with proteins. Such lipid-protein complexes are called lipoprotein. This combination promotes solubility of lipid in an aqueous environment, this make it more available for cells up take. Lipoproteins have a core of insoluble (non-polar) cholesterol esters and Triglycerides. The study is aimed at determining the lipids and lipoproteins profiles in the serum of diabetics and hypertensive subjects. Automated chemistry analyzer (selectra pros) was used for these analyses. The results obtained from sample analyzed for serum Total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein, low density lipoprotein and triglyceride from hypertensive and diabetes patients are TC 9.3 mmol/L, HDL 1.9 mmol/L, LDL 2.3 mmol/L, TG 0.9 mmol/L. This study has generated data which shows that dyslipidemia exists in patients at Damaturu who suffers from diabetes and hypertension, or both diseases as compared with normal individuals. Micro-Finance and Real Sector Growth in Nigeria

Microcredit is the provision of credit services to poor clients. While the words ‘microcredit’ and ‘microfinance’ are often used interchangeably, they have different resonances and are loosely attached to contrasting beliefs about the state of rural finance and the nature of poverty, (Robinson, 2001). The real sector of an economy refers to the sector responsible for the production and provision of tangible commodities, example, Agriculture and Manufacturing. The total contribution of Nigeria’s real sector to GDP is not impressive at all, (CBN, 1993). Economic growth of the real sector refers to the steady process by which the productive capacity of the economy, measured over time, brings about rising levels of national output and income, (Todaro, 1979). Descriptive Survey Method (DSM) is used in this study to determine whether Microfinance Institutions are effective I boosting real sector growth, especially in Nigeria.
